Once staff have completed the training, ‘Trauma and Vicarious Traumatisation: What legal professional need to know’, they will have a common understanding and language around trauma and vicarious traumatisation. Regular group debriefing/supervision forums help to build on awareness and skills and creates a workplace culture of support and understanding around these issues. Regular debriefing provides an appropriate space for processing impacts of the work that minimises the risk of unaddressed vicarious traumatisation manifesting in cynicism and despair (Pearlman & Saakvitne, 1995).
